What in fact is a PVC window?
A synthetic (PVC) window is composed of the following complementing materials and detail parts: various PVC profiles – double glass – steel – sealing rubber – accessories. To give you an idea all these high-quality materials are clarified below:
All synthetic (PVC) and aluminium profiles for windows consist of several chambers, that prevent noise pollution and getting through of hot or cold temperatures. Please have a look at the picture here below. From a 6-metre long profile out of the factory the exterior and the moving parts of a window are manufactured. These profiles are certified according to the European standards and one of the certificates is better known as: ISO.
Glass for windows is composed of 2, 3 or sometimes even 4 sheets with a space in between, called the cleft. Previously this so called cleft was filled with dry air and now most companies use Argon gas. For the best insulation the cleft must have a width of 15mm.
What is HR window-glass?
HR is a double glazing unit with improved insulation. It is double window-glass with which on one of the two sheets of glass a microscopic thin layer of metal has been applied on the inner side of the glass. This so called heat reflecting coating provides the isolating function. The heat is for a large part being cast back to space by this small layer of metal. Consequently there is less heat loss and this produces an energy saving in relation to normal double window-glass. There are three grades of HR glass.
- HR Glas - Heeft de laagste isolatiewaarde maar isoleert wel veel beter dan gewoon dubbelglas.
- HR+ Glas - Heeft een betere isolatiewaarde.
- HR++ Glas - Levert de beste isolatiewaarde.
Within the window you can find a form of zinc-coated steel, which forms the framework so to say of the window. Both the hinge mechanism and the window fittings and screws to secure the window are directly attached to this steel frame. This way the risk of a swaying sash window for example is reduced and the stability and safety of the window is improved. With special, long screws the window is attached to the wall, making the affixation of the PVC window to the wall “air tight”.
The rubber used for sealing plays an important role in the insulation of the window. There are different types of rubber for different sealing applications. One of the applications is making the window water tight and wind- and dust resistant by applying the rubber to the necessary places. The rubber is produced by extrusion of a sustainable material named APTK.
The most important characteristics of accessories are the functionality, strength and safety that they offer. All accessories like: hinges, handles, locks, screws, etc. are mounted on and in the PVC or aluminium window. Together these contribute to the safety of the window and assist the sealing material (rubber) in making a proper seal.
